A challenge

So you want Barack Obama elected president?  I certainly do.  Maybe you are spending a lot of time online, searching for the latest Palin mini-scandal that doesn't seem to gain traction in the MSM which has been muzzled yet again by the latest right wing whine fest.  Maybe you are concerned about the latest tracking poll that shows McCain getting a convention bounce.  If this describes you then I have an idea.

Get off your ass and do something!

What I mean after the jump...

I live in Southern New Mexico - one of those swing states you keep hearing about, so I'm kind of lucky in this regard.  This weekend I did something and went out and knocked on over 200 doors in my own neighborhood.  As impressive as that might sound, I wasn't even the most prolific canvasser in my neighborhood team.  I would give more detailed numbers, but I know the Obama campaign likes to keep these numbers confidential.  Suffice it to say that we blew away the targets given to us from Chicago.

The point is I have a challenge for each and everyone of you (who fit my description).  If you live in a swing state... go down to your nearest Obama office - it is likely within 50 miles of where you live unless you really live out in the boonies.  Get a walk list, and knock on some doors.  Knock on 250 doors.  Knock on 300 doors.  If I can knock on 200, I know someone out there can do even better.

If you don't live in a swing state, and can't relocate to one for a month or two, go to my.barackobama.com and sign up.  Get a call list and call over 200 voters in one of the swing states.  If I can knock on 200 doors, I know someone out there can call at least 200.

If you live in a swing state, and prefer a more passive activity set up a table and register voters.  Find out what you need to do.  In New Mexico, you spend five minutes at your county clerk's office getting deputized.  Get permission from a local business, such as Walmart or Starbucks and set up shop.  Even better, go to a farmer's market, flea market or any large gathering of people.     I'll bet someone out there can register 20 voters this week.

If you really don't like talking to people, go down to your local Obama headquarters and volunteer to do data entry.  I'll bet someone out there can spend 10 hours this week doing that.

Our time is too important to be spent worrying about the latest twist and turn in this election.  Let's get to work!

Poll
I will
Knock on 200 doors by next Sunday
I will make 200 calls by next Sunday
I will register 20 voters by next Sunday
I will spend 10 hours doing data entry this week
I will spend all week worrying about the polls instead

Re: A challenge (2.00 / 1)

I never got involved in politics in my life until 2006, when I joined a MoveOn Phone bank and actually felt like I did something. Would have even if we'd lost. I haven't done so yet, but now I'm starting to see that I'm going to have to if I want a clear conscience in November.

Re: A challenge (2.00 / 1)

Yeah I wanted to help out in NM, seeing as its the only battleground state I live near, and it just so happens that team Obama is holding sessions in Texas to become field orgnaizers and possibly head out to NM in the coming weeks.

if anyone in TX is interested, here's the application

Re: A challenge (none / 0)

I wouldn't make one single call for the race baiting candidate we elected.

Re: A challenge (none / 0)

Good. Then go make them for "Bombbomb" McBush and not even in cases of rape and incest Palin.  Do your part to keep the race-baiter out of the Whitehouse.
